Keep on Going – That Goal is Where?

“Keep on going and the chances are you will stumble on something, perhaps when you are least expecting it. I have never heard of anyone stumbling on something sitting down.” Charles F. Kettering.

When we set our goals, we plan to do things that will drive us to that goal. But, according to Chellie Campbell in the Wealthy Spirit (I highly recommend it), “As you pursue a goal, you accumulate knowledge and develop skills and abilities.” Do you wonder sometimes how you got from here to there? I’ve had 6 or 7 different careers and often wondered how I got there. “Some of these new insights and abilities percolate inside you until, one day, you see another goal; something you couldn’t have seen from the place you started when you picked the original goal…Now that you see the new goal, it looks shinier and brighter than the original goal. And you change goals.”

You have to take that first step. Pay attention to things around you, jot down a note, and keep a journal. You need to form a goal, then a plan of action with dates (oh, yes, you’ve heard that before!), but according to Don Price in  Laid Off? Don’t Stress! How to Get from Mad to Glad, “you have to continue living your life, doing the things you enjoy most. Volunteer, start a hobby, work on commuity projects, get involved, stay active. Those are the things that will shape you and hone skills that cannot necessarily be taught in classrooms.” Don thought his life was at an end twenty five years ago, but has found his niche at ABIL (Arizona Bridge to Independent Living) in Phoenix, Az. You can read his whole story in the Laid Off book.

This is your day to find your niche, just keep on keeping on and you will find your heart’s goal. Maybe find a mentor or a coach to help you fine tune your focus.
